Understanding Our Fence Cost Breakdown For Supply & Installation
The table we’ve compiled above gives an up to date list of average costs and prices associated with the main types of fence you’re likely to come across in your search for a new or replacement fence.
To give you a much more comprehensive idea of how fencing is costed out, we’ve broken the table down into the following main sections:
- Cost of Materials – This is the cost of the materials needed to construct the fence or if the fence comes pre-constructed then its the price for the pre-constructed fencing panels or sections. The supply cost usually has all required materials to construct a working fence factored into it.
- Installation Cost – This is the cost of installation for this particular fence type, this is the cost as obtained from our list of approved fencing contractors who are registered with the AFA. The installation cost of the fence is something you will often find to be quite high, however due to laws, restrictions, regulations and the work involved it’s always worth employing the services of a qualified fence contractor.
- Total Cost- This is the supply cost and installation cost added together to give a total project cost estimate for that particular fence type
- Cost Per Linear Foot – When you’re speaking with any fencing contractor, the measurements and quotes will always be given in linear feet, this table column provides the price of the fence type per linear foot, supplied and installed
In the table above you’ll also notice that we’ve provided a low average price and a maximum average price which we’d expect you to pay, the lower average price is based upon budget quality fencing + materials and the higher average price has been based upon premium quality fencing + materials. For most homeowners, an average price somewhere in the middle of the two is usually accurate.
Obtaining A Project Baseline
Each of the prices listed in the table above has been provided against a project baseline which we’ve set, this baseline is the measure of how much fencing you’re likely to have installed, based on the industry average we give the prices above based on 150 ft of each particular fence type.
What Our Listed Fence Supply & Installation Costs Include
As part of the overall cost averages provided above we’ve included the addition of the following:
- Fencing boards or materials required to make each panel
- Fence posts
- Fence post tops
- Basic fencing materials
- Anchoring & fixing supplies
What Our Listed Fence Supply & Installation Costs Don’t Include
The overall cost averages above do not include any of the following things and so you will incur extra costs for these:
- Addition of higher priced premium options such as higher grade material
- More durable fence posts and panels
- Ornamental features installed purely for aesthetic appeal
- More complex configurations and layouts
- The removal of the old fencing and fence posts
Expect to pay an extra 5 – 10% for the removal and disposal of the old fencing, this percentage will vary greatly depending on the amount and type of fence being removed.
In this price guide we have tried to cover a comprehensive overview of fence prices, installation costs and factors likely to affect costs. However, there will be aspects of your fencing project we haven’t covered and a great resource we would like to recommend you visit is the AFA (American Fence Association) who provide some great guides and learning materials for different types of fence and fence materials.
